Dealing with the Grid

If you go with a 110V lamp at high wattage, you’re looking at heavy-gauge wiring just to stop the voltage from dropping. It’s bulky and a pain to install. Switching to 480V or 575V changes the game. You can move the same amount of energy using much thinner wires, which means your electrical panels don’t have to be the size of a refrigerator. And here is the thing: if you’re plugging into a standard US or Canadian industrial grid, you want a lamp that matches your transformer output exactly. Adding a transformer just to step the voltage down is just adding another part that can break. Plus, it wastes power. We just wind the filament to match your site’s voltage from the start. Simple.
Heat, Speed, and the Trade-offs
We use shortwave quartz lamps because they punch through and hit that annealing point fast. We can tweak the length and wattage so the heat spreads evenly across the glass, rather than leaving hot spots. If you need massive throughput, high-voltage, high-wattage tubes are the way to go. They pack a punch. But there’s a catch. The more heat density you pump into the glass, the more heat leaks into your machine frame. If your cooling fans and shields aren’t up to the task, you’ll end up frying your sensors. It’s a balancing act.
